Human relations Club 2011-2012 Tentative Schedule


“Franklin Café” Human Relations Club Tentative Schedule for 2011-2012 
Dates and event may change.
All club events are open to other schools and students, and the community. Please call to let me know you are interested and how many will come.
Students must have at least a  "C"   in every Subject area to participate in club events.


 September  Hispanic Heritage Month
           September 15-October 15

 

Wednesday, September 7th: Welcome Back to School HR Club and Student Council “Car Wash” 3:20-5:30 pm. We will have Chinese food after the car wash. Bring $6.
         
 October is Philipino History Month

Monday October 17th – Friday October 21st: “Ally week”
Change Attitude, Change Behavior, change Directions, Change Lives, Change Policies, Change Voices. Be an Ally, Be the Change! Allies play a vital role in making schools safer for all students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. In fact, the first Gay-Straight Alliance was the idea of a straight ally.


October 22nd: Wear Purple Day: Respect is the word! Stand up against Homophobia and any other type of Bulling!

Wednesday, October 26th: “Diwali” Hindu/Buddhist Festival of Lights. We will make our own Indian Dinner. Bring $5 to cover food cost.

Saturday, November 19th: Milwaukee Folk Fair. We will leave at 9:30 am and return at 4pm. $15 for the tickets and bus fare. You will need money for food and if you want to go shopping. Parents are invited and welcome to come.

December is National Stress Free Holiday Month


18 December International Migrants Day



Thursday, December 8th: “Around the World in 60 Minutes” World Language Fair. 3:30-5:30 pm.  “Multicultural Feast” Sale of quesadillas, crepes’ platter and Mexican drinks. $7 a plate. (Money to support our World Language Department and Human Relations Club.)

January is National Mentors Month




Monday, January 16th: In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday we will watch the movie “The Secret Life of Bees”. We will have Greek Gyro Sandwiches; bring $6 for the food.

Monday, January 23rd-Friday January 27th:  “No Name Calling Week”. Buy a button for $1, and fight against name calling! Money to be donated to the YWCA of Rock County.




February is National Black History Month

 
Wednesday, February 1st: National Freedom Day. We will have a potluck, bring a dish to pass. Councilman Yuri Rashkin guest speaker.





March is Women's History Month




Friday March 30th: In honor of Cesar Chavez Day  School wide activity.  
         
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month


Friday, April 20th: “A Day of Silence”



Tuesday, April 24th: Holocaust Remembrance day is on the 19th, Milwaukee Jewish Museum visit and Holocaust Survivor guest speaker. $15 for lunch and bus fare.





Friday, April 27th : “Stand Up Against Racism”


May is Asian American Heritage Month
